this vehic le prov ides, Secti on 1 3 of this Owners Manu-

to read.
Secti on 13 desc ribes t he func tion and operat ion con-
cerni ng seats , seat belts , SRS air bags and c hild r e-
straint systems of this vehicle and some potential haz-
ards you s hould be aware of. These systems work to-
gether along wit h the over all st ruct ure of t his vehi cle in
order to pr ovide occupant restrai nt in the event of a
crash. The effect of each system is enhanc ed when it is
used properl y and together wit h other systems. No
singl e occupant restr aint system can, by itself, provide
you or your family wi th the equal lev el of rest raint whic h
these systems can provide when used t ogether. That i s
why it is impor tant for y ou and your f amily t o under-
stand the pur pose and proper use of e ach of these
systems and how they relate to each other.
The purpose of all occ upant r estr aint systems is to help
reduce the pos sibility of death or serious injury in the
event of a collision. None of these systems, either indi-
vidual ly or together, c an ens ure that ther e is no inj ury in
the event of collision. However, the more you know

appropri ate for their age and size. SRS (Supplement al
Restr aint Syst em) air bags ar e, as their names imply,
designed t o work wi th, and be s upplemental to, seat
belts and are not subs tit utes for them. SRS airbags can
be ver y effec tiv e in reduc ing the ri sk of head and chest
injur ies by prev enting contac t of the head and chest wit h
inter ior por tions of t he vehic le.

iv
In order to be effect ive, t he SRS airbags mus t depl oy
with tremendous speed. The rapi d deployment of the
SRS airbags makes t he SRS airbags thems elves poten-
tial sour ces of death or s erious inj ury if an occ upant is
too c lose to an air bag, or if an obj ect or s ome par t of
his or her body has been placed between t he occ upant
and the ai rbag at the ti me of deploy ment. This is jus t
one example of how the ins truc tions i n Secti on 13 of
this Owners Manual will hel p ensur e proper use of the
occupant rest raint systems, and increase the safety they
