Product description
Theresidual current device’s main function is to protect people and
property if insulation failure should occur in electrical equipment.
Theresidual current device is agood complementary protection to
other safety precautions measures such as fuses and earthing.
This residual current device is anon-latching type which means that
it has ano-volt release switch which has to be reset manually after
apowercut.
• For plugging directly into anearthed wall socket.
• Trips at 30 mA fault current (mA = one thousandth of anampere).
• Equipped with test button and indicator.
• Protection class IP44 (32-3492 only).
Safety
• Make sure that theelectrical socket that theproduct is plugged
into is easily accessible in case it and theconnected product need
to be quickly disconnected from themains electricity.
• Do not connect products of this type to each other.
• Do not cover theproduct.
Operation
Residual current device
RCDs operate by measuring thecurrent balance between thelive
and neutral conductor in acircuit. Whenacircuit operates normally,
thesupply and return currents are in balance and sum to zero. Ifthere
is afault in thecircuit (suchas dangerous current leakage through
thebody of aperson to earth), thecurrent will be out of balance and
theRCD will trip and cut off thesupply of current.
Theoperation of theRCD should be checked regularly using thetest
button.
No-volt release switch
Thebuilt-in no-volt release switch prevents theconnected electrical
device (drill, lathe, etc.) from starting again automatically after apower
cut. Theno-volt release switch must be reset by pushing the[ RESET ]
button twice after apower outage before it will allow current to
flowagain.
Use
Theresidual current device is designed to be plugged into anearthed
wall socket.
Plug theRCD into anelectrical socket and press [ RESET ]
twice in order to reset theno-voltage release switch inside before
theRCD’s socket is energized. Asmall orange dot can be seen in
theindication window above the[ RESET ] button when theRCD’s
socket is energized.
Note: Onlyplug theresidual current device into sockets where it can
be inserted with the[ RESET ] button located above thesocket. (Only
applies to theNordic countries)
Testing the RCD
1. Before theresidual current device is used it must be tested by
pushing the[ TEST ] button.
2. Theorange dot in theindication window above the[ RESET ]
button disappears when theRCD trips and cuts off thecurrent to
thesocket.
3. Reset theRCD by pressing the[ RESET ] button twice. Theorange
dot in theindicator window should be visible when theRCD has
been reset and conducts current to thesocket again.
Note: Thetest button only works when theRCD is plugged into alive
electrical socket.
