Safety
• Never expose theradio, charger or mains adaptor to rain or moisture.
• Use only theincluded or recommended mains adaptor.
• If you use headphones you should avoid having thevolume on maximum level to
protect you hearing.
• Always remove thebattery when thedevice is not used for alongtime.
• Only use rechargeable NiMH batteries of type AAA/HR03.

Buttons and functions
Charging thebatteries Calling tone
Under certain conditions, such as over long distances or if there are obstructions which
might hinder thesignal transmission, you can call other users by sending atone signal.
1. Press twice, theletters “CA” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Select thesignal tone 1–5 or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
Key Tone on/off
1. Press three times, theletters “to” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Select either or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.on of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
Roger beep
The “roger beep” is atone which is automatically transmitted whenever [PTT] is released.
Italerts thereceiving party that you have finished transmitting and are in receiving mode.
1. Press four times, theletters “ro” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Select either or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.on of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
VOX (Voice-activated) transmission
In VOX mode, your handset will transmit whenever it detects your voice, without
the[PTT] button having to be pressed. Transmission can also be activated by other
noises in your vicinity.
1. Press five times, the“VOX” symbol will appear on thedisplay and theletters
“OF” will begin toflash.
2. Select either or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.on of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
Monitor mode
The monitor feature can be used to check for other weak signals on thecurrent channel.
1. To activate themonitor function, press and [ ] simultaneously.Λ
2. If no other channels are found, all you will hear is aconstant noise and crackling sound.
3. Press to deactivate themonitor function.
Refer to the table below for more detailed information regarding Channel frequency
frequencies.
Automatic channel scan
The automatic channel scan feature scans channels 1 through 8 searching for active signals.
1. To activate thechannel scan function, press and [V] simultaneously.
2. When anactive transmitting channel is detected, thechannel scan pauses on
theactive channel.
3. Press [PTT] to communicate on thedetected channel. Theauto channel scan
function will automatically be deactivated.
4. Press [ ] or [V] to resume channel scanning.Λ
5. Press to turn theauto channel scan function off.
Keypad lock
The keypad lock enables theuser to lock the[ ], [V] and so that thesettings Λ
cannot be changed accidentally.
1. To activate thekeypad lock, press and hold until thekeypad lock symbol
appears in themenu.
2. Deactivate thekeypad lock by pressing and holding until thekeypad lock
symbol disappears from themenu.
3. [PTT], and work even if thekeypad lock is activated.
Display backlight
Every time abutton is pressed (except [PTT]), thedisplay screen will light up for 4 seconds.
Standby mode
• Each handset has abuilt-in power save function designed to extend thelife of thebattery
when it is not used. Ifthehandset is not used for 4 seconds, it will automatically enter
standby mode. Thestandby mode does not affect thehandset’s ability to receive
transmissions. Assoon as asignal is detected, theunit returns to fullpower.
• Make ahabit of turning thePMR off when it is not in use, to save battery power.
Range
The effective range of thePMR handsets is dependent on theenvironment and terrain
where they are beingused.
• Under optimum conditions therange could be as much as 3km.
• Under unfavourable conditions therange could be as little as 750m.
Care and maintenance
Remove thebatteries if theproduct is not to be used for anextended period oftime.
Clean theproduct using alightly moistened cloth. Onlyuse mild cleaning agents, never
solvents or corrosive chemicals.
Troubleshooting guide
Bad/no reception/
transmission
• Battery capacity low or batteries inserted incorrectly.
Checkbattery polarity.
• The transmitter is located outside of thereceiver’srange.
• The receiver and transmitter are set to different channels.
• The volume is toolow.
• Surrounding conditions affecting reception. Moveto
another area without obstacles or sources of interference,
preferably as high as possible.
• Handset held too close to thebody. Holdthehandset
away from yourbody.
• The other user is too close. Maintain adistance of at least
1.5 m from one another.
• There are other users on thesame channel, causing
interference. Changechannel.
It is not possible to
change channels.
• The keypad lock is activated – deactivate thekeypad lock.

This product should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Getting started
Inserting batteries
1. Remove thebelt clip by pulling
thebelt clip catch out and
sliding theclip upwards.
2. Release thebattery compartment cover
catch and remove thecover.
Charging with the charging station
1. Place thehandsets into thecharging station.
2. Plug thecharger cable into thesocket on
theback of thecharging station.
3. Connect themains adaptor to awall socket.
4. The LED for each respective charging dock
lights up when charging is inprogress.
5. The handset’s battery status is shown
on thedisplay during charging.
Fullydischarged batteries can take up to
10hours to recharge. Newbatteries should
be charged for approximately 12 hours
before using them for thefirsttime.
6. The battery status is shown on thedisplay
regardless of whether thehandset is turned on or off. Duringcharging mode, no
transmission or reception is possible.
7. If thebatteries are fully discharged during use, theunit will beep twice and turn itself off.
Charging a single handset
1. Plug thecharger cable into thesocket (7) on
thehandset.
2. Connect themains adaptor to awall socket.
3. The handset’s battery status is shown on
thedisplay during charging. Fullydischarged
batteries can take up to 10 hours to recharge.
Newbatteries should be charged for
approximately 12 hours before using them for
thefirsttime.
4. The battery status is shown on thedisplay
regardless of whether thehandset is turned on
or off. Duringcharging mode, no transmission or
reception is possible.
5. If thebatteries are fully discharged during use,
theunit will beep twice and turn itself off.
Battery status display
• Each handset indicates its battery charging status.
• When charging normally, thebars on thebattery symbol willflash.
• If thebatteries are dead and can no longer be recharged, thebattery symbol will
have no bars and theunit will beep 3 times. Theunit will then switch itself off.
Operation
Turning the handset on
Press and hold in the button (3) until abeep is heard. Thedisplay will light up and
show thecurrent channel.
Turning the handset off
Press and hold in the button (3) until abeep is heard. Thedisplay will turnblank.
Adjusting the volume
There are 8 volume levels; thecurrent speaker level is shown on thedisplay.
Raise or lower thevolume using thearrow buttons (10).
Receiving a call
Note: Ona2-way radio, transmissions can only be sent in one direction at atime.
Youcannot receive atransmitted signal whilst you yourself are speaking/transmitting
(known as simplex communication).
The handsets are constantly in reception mode when turned on (and not transmitting).
Whenasignal is received, thereception symbol appears on thedisplay.
Transmitting (sending)
1. Press and hold in the[PTT] button (2). Thetransmission symbol will appear on thedisplay.
2. Hold thehandset vertically about 5 cm away from your mouth and speak in
anormal tone ofvoice.
3. Release the[PTT] button to stop transmitting.
Note: Inorder for other people to receive your transmission, they must also be on
thesame channel that you areusing.
Changing channels
The Exibel FX-33 PMR has 8 channels, numbered 1 to8.
1. Press once, thenumber “1” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Change channels by pressing thearrow buttons.
3. Press again to confirm your selection.
3. Insert 3×AAA/LR03 batteries (rechargeable).
Note: Observe thepolarity markings in thebattery compartment.
4. Refit thebattery compartment cover and thebeltclip.
