Safety
• Never expose theradio, charger or mains adaptor to rain or moisture.
• Use only theincluded or recommended mains adaptor.
• If you use headphones you should avoid having thevolume on maximum level to
protect you hearing.
• Always remove thebattery when thedevice is not used for alongtime.
• Only use rechargeable NiMH batteries of type AAA/HR03.

Buttons and functions
Charging thebatteries Calling tone
Under certain conditions, such as over long distances or if there are obstructions which
might hinder thesignal transmission, you can call other users by sending atone signal.
1. Press twice, theletters “CA” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Select thesignal tone 1–5 or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
Key Tone on/off
1. Press three times, theletters “to” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Select either or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.on of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
Roger beep
The “roger beep” is atone which is automatically transmitted whenever [PTT] is released.
Italerts thereceiving party that you have finished transmitting and are in receiving mode.
1. Press four times, theletters “ro” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Select either or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.on of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
VOX (Voice-activated) transmission
In VOX mode, your handset will transmit whenever it detects your voice, without
the[PTT] button having to be pressed. Transmission can also be activated by other
noises in your vicinity.
1. Press five times, the“VOX” symbol will appear on thedisplay and theletters
“OF” will begin toflash.
2. Select either or off ( ) using thearrow buttons.on of
3. Press [PTT] to finish and confirm your selection.
Monitor mode
The monitor feature can be used to check for other weak signals on thecurrent channel.
1. To activate themonitor function, press and [ ] simultaneously.Λ
2. If no other channels are found, all you will hear is aconstant noise and crackling sound.
3. Press to deactivate themonitor function.
Refer to the table below for more detailed information regarding Channel frequency
frequencies.
Automatic channel scan
The automatic channel scan feature scans channels 1 through 8 searching for active signals.
1. To activate thechannel scan function, press and [V] simultaneously.
2. When anactive transmitting channel is detected, thechannel scan pauses on
theactive channel.
3. Press [PTT] to communicate on thedetected channel. Theauto channel scan
function will automatically be deactivated.
4. Press [ ] or [V] to resume channel scanning.Λ
5. Press to turn theauto channel scan function off.
Keypad lock
The keypad lock enables theuser to lock the[ ], [V] and so that thesettings Λ
cannot be changed accidentally.
1. To activate thekeypad lock, press and hold until thekeypad lock symbol
appears in themenu.
2. Deactivate thekeypad lock by pressing and holding until thekeypad lock
symbol disappears from themenu.
3. [PTT], and work even if thekeypad lock is activated.
Display backlight
Every time abutton is pressed (except [PTT]), thedisplay screen will light up for 4 seconds.
Standby mode
• Each handset has abuilt-in power save function designed to extend thelife of thebattery
when it is not used. Ifthehandset is not used for 4 seconds, it will automatically enter
standby mode. Thestandby mode does not affect thehandset’s ability to receive
transmissions. Assoon as asignal is detected, theunit returns to fullpower.
• Make ahabit of turning thePMR off when it is not in use, to save battery power.
Range
The effective range of thePMR handsets is dependent on theenvironment and terrain
where they are beingused.
• Under optimum conditions therange could be as much as 3km.
• Under unfavourable conditions therange could be as little as 750m.
Care and maintenance
Remove thebatteries if theproduct is not to be used for anextended period oftime.
Clean theproduct using alightly moistened cloth. Onlyuse mild cleaning agents, never
solvents or corrosive chemicals.
Troubleshooting guide
Bad/no reception/
transmission
• Battery capacity low or batteries inserted incorrectly.
Checkbattery polarity.
• The transmitter is located outside of thereceiver’srange.
• The receiver and transmitter are set to different channels.
• The volume is toolow.
• Surrounding conditions affecting reception. Moveto
another area without obstacles or sources of interference,
preferably as high as possible.
• Handset held too close to thebody. Holdthehandset
away from yourbody.
• The other user is too close. Maintain adistance of at least
1.5 m from one another.
• There are other users on thesame channel, causing
interference. Changechannel.
It is not possible to
change channels.
• The keypad lock is activated – deactivate thekeypad lock.

This product should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Getting started
Inserting batteries
1. Remove thebelt clip by pulling
thebelt clip catch out and
sliding theclip upwards.
2. Release thebattery compartment cover
catch and remove thecover.
Charging with the charging station
1. Place thehandsets into thecharging station.
2. Plug thecharger cable into thesocket on
theback of thecharging station.
3. Connect themains adaptor to awall socket.
4. The LED for each respective charging dock
lights up when charging is inprogress.
5. The handsets battery status is shown
on thedisplay during charging.
Fullydischarged batteries can take up to
10hours to recharge. Newbatteries should
be charged for approximately 12 hours
before using them for thefirsttime.
6. The battery status is shown on thedisplay
regardless of whether thehandset is turned on or off. Duringcharging mode, no
transmission or reception is possible.
7. If thebatteries are fully discharged during use, theunit will beep twice and turn itself off.
Charging a single handset
1. Plug thecharger cable into thesocket (7) on
thehandset.
2. Connect themains adaptor to awall socket.
3. The handsets battery status is shown on
thedisplay during charging. Fullydischarged
batteries can take up to 10 hours to recharge.
Newbatteries should be charged for
approximately 12 hours before using them for
thefirsttime.
4. The battery status is shown on thedisplay
regardless of whether thehandset is turned on
or off. Duringcharging mode, no transmission or
reception is possible.
5. If thebatteries are fully discharged during use,
theunit will beep twice and turn itself off.
Battery status display
• Each handset indicates its battery charging status.
• When charging normally, thebars on thebattery symbol willflash.
• If thebatteries are dead and can no longer be recharged, thebattery symbol will
have no bars and theunit will beep 3 times. Theunit will then switch itself off.
Operation
Turning the handset on
Press and hold in the button (3) until abeep is heard. Thedisplay will light up and
show thecurrent channel.
Turning the handset off
Press and hold in the button (3) until abeep is heard. Thedisplay will turnblank.
Adjusting the volume
There are 8 volume levels; thecurrent speaker level is shown on thedisplay.
Raise or lower thevolume using thearrow buttons (10).
Receiving a call
Note: Ona2-way radio, transmissions can only be sent in one direction at atime.
Youcannot receive atransmitted signal whilst you yourself are speaking/transmitting
(known as simplex communication).
The handsets are constantly in reception mode when turned on (and not transmitting).
Whenasignal is received, thereception symbol appears on thedisplay.
Transmitting (sending)
1. Press and hold in the[PTT] button (2). Thetransmission symbol will appear on thedisplay.
2. Hold thehandset vertically about 5 cm away from your mouth and speak in
anormal tone ofvoice.
3. Release the[PTT] button to stop transmitting.
Note: Inorder for other people to receive your transmission, they must also be on
thesame channel that you areusing.
Changing channels
The Exibel FX-33 PMR has 8 channels, numbered 1 to8.
1. Press once, thenumber “1” will begin to flash on thedisplay.
2. Change channels by pressing thearrow buttons.
3. Press again to confirm your selection.
3. Insert 3×AAA/LR03 batteries (rechargeable).
Note: Observe thepolarity markings in thebattery compartment.
4. Refit thebattery compartment cover and thebeltclip.
