■ Sollte sich das Brot doch einmal entzün-
den, ziehen Sie sofort den Netzstecker
und ersticken Sie die Flamme mit einem
feuchten Tuch.

stellen oder in deren N he benutzen ä
(z.B. Herdplatte, Gasflamme).
■ Bei Stö ä örungen w hrend des R stvor-
gangs, vor der Reinigung und nach jedem
Gebrauch stets den Netzstecker ziehen.
■ Gerät nicht ins Wasser tauchen.
■ Heizer nicht mit spitzen oder scharfen
Gegenst nden reinigen.ä
■ Harte Erschütterungen vermeiden.
■ Den Stecker nicht am Netzkabel aus der
Steckdose ziehen.
■ Das Netzkabel nicht über Ecken und

■ Wenn das Netzkabel dieses Gerätes

■ Nicht benötigtes Kabel auf der Unterseite
des Ger tes aufwickeln. Kabel seitlich her-ä
ausf hren. Netzstecker einstecken ü(1).
Vor dem ersten Gebrauch
Um eventuell vorhandene Fertigungsr ck-ü
st nde zu beseitigen, sollte der Toaster vorä
dem Erstgebrauch 1-2 mal auf h chsterö
Röstgradeinstellung ohne Toastbrot betrie-
ben werden (Raum l ften).ü

Stellen Sie vor Erstgebrauch eine Scheibe
Toast in den R stschacht. Die Toastscheibeö
mu vor dem Symbol stehen. Brot aufß
höchster Röstgradeinstellung toasten. Diese
Toastscheibe sollte nicht gegessen werden.
Wiederholen Sie den Vorgang mit einer
anderen Toastscheibe und l ften Sie danachü
den Raum. Dieser Vorgang ist notwendig,
um eventuell vorhandene Fertigungsr ck-ü
st nde zu beseitigen.ä
Inbetriebnahme
■ Toastscheiben in den Toaster geben (2).
Keine zu gro en und zu dicken Scheibenß
verwenden. Der Toast darf nicht im Schacht
eingeklemmt sein.
■ Röstgrad einstellen (3).
Wählen Sie zwischen den 6-7 verschiedenen
Br unungsstufen aus. ä
Deutsch ◆

Stellen Sie dementsprechend den R stgrad-ö
einsteller ein:
Position 1 = schwach ger stetö
Position 6/7 = sehr stark ger stetö
Erst-Einstellung ausprobieren, da der R st-ö
grad abh ngig vom Toastbrot und dessenä
Feuchtegehalt ist. Bei Graubrot generell eine
höhere Röstgradeinstellung wählen als bei
Wei brot.ß
Stellen Sie den R stgradeinsteller auf eineö
niedrigere Stufe, wenn Sie z.B. nur eine
Scheibe Brot r sten m chten.ö ö
Wichtig:
Trockenere Brotscheiben oder schon einmal
getoastetes Brot br unt schneller und kannä
sich unter Umst nden entz nden. Deshalbä ü
niedrigere R stgradeinstellung w hlen undö ä
Ger t nicht unbeaufsichtigt lassen.ä
Toasten
■ Absenktaste ganz herunterdrücken (4).
Die Taste rastet ein. Damit wird das Gerät
eingeschaltet.
Toast entnehmen
■ Nach Beendigung des Toastvorgangs
wird der Toast automatisch angehoben
und das Ger t ausgeschaltet ä(5).
■ Toastscheiben entnehmen.
Hinweis: Sollte sich eine Brotscheibe im
Röstschacht verklemmt haben, Netzstecker
ziehen, Ger t abk hlen lassen und dann dieä ü
Toastscheibe vorsichtig l sen ohne die Heiz-ö
elemente zu ber hren.ü
Stop-Taste
■ Wenn Sie den Toastvorgang unterbrechen
möchten, drücken Sie die Stop-Taste. Der
Toast wird automatisch angehoben (6).
Toastheber-Funktion
Die Toastheber-Funktion erm glicht ein ö
einfaches Entnehmen von kleinen Toast-
scheiben.
■ Nach Beendigung des Toastvorgangs, die
Absenktaste ganz nach oben dr cken undü
den Toast entnehmen (7).
Zus tzliche Ausstattung ä

■ Richten Sie die beiden Metallbügel auf,
indem Sie die beiden Griffe des Br tchen-ö
lifts nach oben schwenken (8).

schalten (9). Die Toastzeit ist fest einge-
stellt und braucht nicht ausgewählt zu
werden.
Um ein besseres Ergebnis zu erhalten,
empfiehlt es sich, die Br tchen umzudrehenö
und den Toastvorgang zu wiederholen.
Nach Gebrauch den Br tchenlift absenken,ö
indem Sie die beiden Griffe wieder nach
unten schwenken.
Der Br tchenlift sollte nicht l nger als ö ä
10 Minuten benutzt werden.

■ Brötchenaufsatz auf den Toaster

Ger t einschalten.ä
Um ein besseres Ergebnis zu erhalten,
empfiehlt es sich, die Br tchen umzudrehenö
und den Toastvorgang zu wiederholen.
Nach dem Gebrauch den Br tchenaufsatzö
abk hlen lassen. Beim Abnehmen den ü
Br tchenaufsatz an den Griffen anfassen.ö
Der Br tchenaufsatz sollte nicht l nger als ö ä
10 Minuten ununterbrochen benutzt werden.
Aufknusper-Funktion
Mit diesem Toaster haben Sie die M glich-ö
keit bereits getoastetes Brot wieder aufzu-
wärmen.
Art. 161 und 162
■ Stellen Sie hierzu den Röstgradeinsteller
auf Pos. (11).
Ger t einschalten. Sobald der Wiederer-ä
wärm-Vorgang abgeschlossen ist, wird der
Toast automatisch angehoben.

■ Die Absenktaste ganz herunterdrücken.
Die Taste rastet ein. Dann die Aufknusper-
Taste drücken. Die Kontrolleuchte
leuchtet auf (12).
Nach Beendigung des Aufw rmvorgangesä
wird der Toast automatisch angehoben,
die Kontrolleuchte erlischt und das Gerät
schaltet sich aus.
Auftau-Funktion
(Art. 160, 163, 164, 167, 170, 256)
Mit diesem Toaster haben Sie die M glich-ö
keit, gefrorenes Brot zu toasten. Durch die
Auftau-Funktion wird das Brot zuerst aufge-
taut und schaltet dann automatisch auf den
Toastvorgang um.
■ Hierzu den Röstgradeinsteller auf die
gew nschte Position stellen.ü
■ Absenktaste ganz herunter drücken. Die
Taste rastet ein. Dann die Auftau-Taste
dr cken ü(13).
Die Kontrolleuchte leuchtet auf. Nach Beendi-
gung des Auftauvorganges und des anschlie-
ßenden Toastvorganges wird der Toast auto-
matisch angehoben, die Kontrolleuchte
erlischt und das Ger t schaltet sich aus.ä
„ “Intelligent Sensor
(Art. 166, 168)
Dieser Toaster ist mit einem Intelligent„
Sensor ausgestattet, der die Beschaffenheit“
des Brotes erkennt und die Toastzeit auto-
matisch steuert.
Sie erhalten bei gleicher R stgradein-ö
stellung immer den gleichen Br unungs-ä
grad, egal wieviel Brot getoastet werden soll
und ob es sich um frisches, trockenes oder
tiefgefrorenes Brot handelt.
Der Intelligent Sensor erm glicht zus tz-„ “ ö ä
lich zum Toasten von frischem Brot:
- automatisches Wiederaufwärmen von
bereits getoastetem Brot
- automatisches Auftauen von tiefgefrore-
nem Brot.
Sie brauchen nur das aufzuw rmende oderä
aufzutauende Brot in den Toaster zu geben
und das Ger t, ohne Ver nderung der R st-ä ä ö
gradeinstellung, einzuschalten. Der Sensor
mi t die Temperatur des Brotes und steuertß
automatisch die Toastzeit.
Dieser Toaster erm glicht Ihnen schrittweiseö
den Br unungsgrad herauszufinden, derä
Ihrem Geschmack entspricht. Sollte der Toast
zu hell sein, stellen Sie den R stgradeinstel-ö
ler eine Stufe höher ein und schalten Sie den
Toaster nochmals ein. Der Br unungsgradä
wird w hrend dieses Toastvorgangs nur umä
eine Stufe erh ht. Es beginnt kein komplettö
neuer Toastvorgang.
■ Stellen Sie den Röstgradeinsteller auf die
gew nschte Einstellung und geben Sieü
das Brot in den R stschacht. ö
Wichtig:
- Es ist wichtig, daß die Brotscheibe
genau vor dem Symbol steht. Hier
befindet sich der Sensor, der die
Beschaffenheit des Brotes erkennt (14).
- Zum Toasten von aufgeschnittenen Bröt-
chen oder Baguette muß die Schnitt-
fl che immer in Richtung Symbol ä
zeigen.
Wenn die Brotscheibe nicht direkt vor dem
Sensor steht, arbeitet der Toaster nicht kor-
rekt (die Toastzeit wird verk rzt), da derü
Sensor eine zu kleine Brotoberfl che erfaä ßt
und somit keine exakte Messung durch-
führen kann.
■ Absenktaste ganz herunterdrücken, bis sie
einrastet.
Nach Beendigung des Toastvorgangs wird
der Toast automatisch angehoben und das
Ger t ausgeschaltet.ä
Wichtig:
Sollte der Toaster nicht normal funktionie-
ren, obwohl die Brotscheibe richtig im R st-ö
schacht steht, kann dies durch festgeklebte
Kr mel im Bereich des Intelligent Sensorsü “ “
hervorgerufen werden.
Drehen Sie den Toaster um und r tteln ihn,ü
um die Kr mel herausfallen zu lassen.ü
Reinigen
Vor der Reinigung Netzstecker ziehen.
Ger t nicht ins Wasser tauchen.ä
Den Toaster nie mit einem rauhen
Schwamm reinigen. Reinigen Sie den
Toaster zuerst mit einem feuchten Tuch und
trocknen Sie ihn dann mit einem weichen
Tuch ab, um den Glanz zu erhalten.
Toastreste regelm ig entfernen.äß
Vor dem Herausziehen der Kr melschub-ü
lade den Toaster mindestens 10 Minuten,
nach Beendigung des letzten Toastvor-
gangs, abk hlen lassen.ü
■ Krümelschublade herausziehen und
Kr mel aussch tten ü ü (15).
Mit einem feuchten Tuch reinigen.
Kr melschublade wieder einsetzen.ü
Den Toaster nie ohne Kr melschubladeü
benutzen.
Entsorgung
Die Verpackung besteht ausschlie lich ausß

ö ürtlichen Recyclestellen bergeben werden
sollten.

The toaster is a Krups quality product. The
heat-insulated casing makes for increased
safety during use. A temperature sensor
ensures even browning, slice after slice.
Important Safety
Precautions
■ Carefully read the instructions for use
before operating the appliance.
■ Connect the appliance only to an
alternating current source. The voltage
stated on the rating plate must
correspond with that of your mains
supply.
■ Do not leave the appliance unsupervised
during use.
■ Keep children away from the appliance.
■ Do not allow the flex to hang down.
■ Very high temperatures are generated
inside the appliance. Do not yourself
touch, or allow the flex to touch, any
inner part of the appliance.
■ Never cover the toasting well when in
use. Never put bread or rolls directly on
the toasting well.
■ Slices of bread can catch fire when
toasted several times, so do not use the
toaster beneath, or in the vicinity of,
anything which is inflammable. Should
the bread catch fire, however, pull out the
mains plug immediately and douse the
flames with a moist cloth.
■ Do not use or place the appliance on or
near to a source of heat, such as a stove
hotplate or a gas flame.
■ Always pull out the mains plug if
anything untoward happens during the
toasting operation, before any cleaning
operation and after every time the
appliance has been used.
■ Do not dip the appliance into water.
■ Do not clean the heating elements with
pointed or with sharp implements. Avoid
hefty shaking or vibrations.
■ Do not withdraw the mains plug by
pulling on the flex.
■ Do not allow the flex to hang over
corners and edges.
■ Do not use the appliance if either the flex
or the appliance itself is damaged.
■ If the mains flex does become damaged,
it must be replaced by the Krups
Customer Service or by some equally
qualified person, in order to avoid
personal danger.
Connecting the appliance
■ Use just the right length of flex and store
the unnecessary part on the spool in the
storage recess underneath the appliance.
Lead the flex out at the side of the
appliance and plug in at the mains (1).
Upon first using the toaster
In order to remove any possible remains
from the manufacturing operation, the
toaster should, before being used for the
first lot of toast, be heated up 1 to 2 times to
the highest toasting temperature, without
any bread in the toasting well (ventilate the
room).
Models 166, 168 only (Intelligent Sensor)
Before using for the first time, put a slice of
bread into the toasting well in front of the
symbol and toast it at the higher
toasting level. Do not eat this toast. Now
repeat the operation with another slice of
bread and then ventilate the room
thoroughly. This is to remove any eventual
residues from the manufacturing process.
Using the toaster
■ Insert the slices of bread (2).
Do not use slices which are too large or too
thick, as they must not be allowed to stick in
the toasting well.
■ Selecting the degree of toasting (3).

Choose between 6-7 different degrees of
browning by setting the selector to the
appropriate position:
Position 1 = lightly toasted
Position 6/7 = very well toasted
When first using, try out the toasting
setting, as the result depends upon the type
of bread and the degree of moisture.
Generally speaking, a higher temperature is
required for breads other than white.
Turn the toasting grade selector to a lower
number if, for example, only one slice of
bread is being toasted.
Caution:
Relatively dry slices of bread, or bread that
has already been toasted once, will brown
much more quickly and may under certain
circumstances catch fire. Therefore set the
heat control to a lower setting and do not
leave the toaster unattended.
Toasting
■ Fully depress the lowering lever, which
will then lock into position (4).
This then causes the appliance to switch on.
Taking out the toast
■ After completion of the toasting operation,
the toast will automatically be raised and
the appliance will switch itself off (5).
■ Take out the slices of toast.
Note: Should a slice of bread become
trapped in the toasting well, pull out the
mains plug, let the appliance cool down and
then carefully free the toast without
touching the heating elements.
Cancel button
■ If you wish to stop the toasting cycle, just
press the cancel button and the toast will
pop up immediately (6).
High-lift facility
The high-lift facility lever makes it easier to
remove the toast.
■ When the toasting is done, press the
lowering lever upwards and take out the
slices of toast (7).
Additional accessories
depending on the model
Roll support (Mod. 162, 164, 168)
■ Raise the roll support by swivelling the
two lifter grips upwards (8).
■ Mod. 162, 164
Place the rolls on the support and select
the toasting grade.
Switch on the appliance (9).
■ Mod. 168
Place the rolls on the support and switch
on the appliance (9). The toasting time is
preset and need not be selected.
To improve the results, turn the rolls over
and repeat the toasting operation.
After use, lower the roll support by
swivelling the two lifter grips downwards.
The roll support should not be used for
longer than 10 minutes.
Removable roll warmer (Mod. 160, 170)
■ Locate the warmer on the toaster (10).
Place the rolls on the support and select
the toasting grade. Switch on the
appliance.
To improve the results, turn the rolls over
and repeat the toasting operation.
After use, allow the warmer to cool down
before removing it, holding it by the handles.
The roll warmer should not be used for
more than 10 minutes at a time.
Rewarming function
With this toaster, you have the possibility of
rewarming toast which has already cooled
down.
Models 161 and 162
■ Do this by setting the selector switch to
the position (11) and then switch on
the appliance.
The toast will be raised automatically as
soon as the rewarming operation is
completed.

Models 160, 163, 164, 167, 170, 256
■ Fully depress the lowering lever, which
then locks into position. Press the
rewarming switch , whereupon the
rewarming indicator lamp will light up(12).
When the rewarming operation is
completed, the toast will automatically be
raised, the rewarming indicator lamp will be
extinguished and the appliance will switch
itself off.
Defrosting function
(Mod. 160, 163, 164, 167, 170, 256)
With this toaster, you can toast deep-frozen
bread. The defrosting function first thaws
out the bread and then switches
automatically to the toasting function.
■ To effect this, first set the selector switch
to the desired degree of toasting.
■ Now fully depress the lowering lever,
which will lock into position. Then press
the defrosting switch (13).
The defrosting indicator lamp will now light
up. Upon completion of the defrosting
operation, and the subsequent toasting
operation, the toast will automatically be
raised, the defrosting indicator lamp will be
extinguished and the appliance will switch
itself off.
„Intelligent Sensor“
(Mod. 166, 168)
This toaster is furnished with an „intelligent
sensor“ which recognises the condition of
the bread and automatically controls the
toasting time accordingly.
Using the same toasting setting, you will
always get the same degree of browning,
irrespective of how many slices are toasted
and whether the bread is fresh, dry or deep-
frozen.
Apart from the toasting of fresh bread, the
„intelligent sensor“ also enables the:
- automatic rewarming of cooled-down toast

It is only necessary to put the bread to be
rewarmed or defrosted into the toaster and
to switch on the appliance, without any
alteration to the grade setting. The sensor
will automatically measure the temperature
of the bread and determine the length of
the toasting time.
This toaster can adjust the degree of
toasting step by step to suit each person’s
individual taste. If the toast is too light,
increase the setting dial by a further step,
whereby the toaster will brown the toast
just a little more, but will not recommence a
full toasting cycle as classic toasters do.
■ Set the toasting grade selector to the
required position and put the bread into
the toasting well.
Important:
- It is essential for the slice of bread to be in
front of the symbol, as the sensor
which recognises the sort of bread is
located there (14).
- When toasting bagels or baguettes
which have been already cut, the cut
surface must face the sensor symbol .
If the slice of bread is not directly in front of
the sensor, the toaster will not operate
normally (the toasting time will be shorter).
This is because there is an insufficient
surface of bread available for the sensor to
make a proper assessment.
■ Depress the lowering lever fully, until it
engages properly.
Upon completion of the toasting operation,
the toast will be raised automatically and
the appliance will switch itself off.
Important:
If the toaster fails to function properly, even
though the slice of bread is correctly
positioned in the toasting well, the cause can
be that crumbs of bread have become stuck
in the vicinity of the intelligent sensor . “ “
Turn the toaster upside down and shake it,
so that the crumbs can fall out.
Cleaning
Before commencing the cleaning operation,
pull out the mains plug.
Do not dip the appliance into water.
Never use an abrasive sponge to clean the
toaster. Clean it with a moist cloth and then
dry it with a soft cloth to keep it bright.
Regularly remove crumbs and bits of toast.
Before pulling out the crumb drawer, allow
the toaster to cool for at least ten minutes
after completion of the preceding toasting
operation.
■ Pull out the crumb drawer and shake out
the crumbs (15).
Clean with a moist cloth and then replace
the crumb drawer.
Never use the toaster without the crumb
drawer in position.
Disposal
The packaging comprises exclusively
environmentally-friendly materials which
should be disposed of according to the local
recycling arrangements.
Disposal methods for the appliance itself
can be found by enquiry at the appropriate
department of the local authority.

décongeler le pain puis automatiquement

■ Pour ce faire, choisir d’ éabord le degr de
dorage d sir et abaisser compl tementé é è
le levier, jusqu ce qu il s enclenche’à ’ ’

L’indicateur de décongélation s’allumera.

Ce grille-pain est pourvu d un tecteur’ “ éd
intelligent“ qui analyse la nature du pain et
contrôle automatiquement le temps de
dorage en cons quence.é
En utilisant la m me position de grillage, onê
obtient le m me degr de dorage,ê é
ind pendamment du nombre de tranchesé
grill es et du fait que le pain est frais, sec oué
congelé.
Il n y a plus besoin de changer la s lection’ é
du niveau de dorage quand on change de
type de pain.
En plus du dorage du pain frais, le
“ é “ éd tecteur intelligent permet galement :
- le réchauffage automatique du pain
refroidi
- la dé écong lation automatique du pain
congelé.
Il suffit de mettre le pain rà échauffer ou à
décongeler directement dans le grille-pain
et de mettre l appareil en marche, sans’
modifier le degr de grillage. Le d tecteuré é
é évaluera automatiquement la temp rature
du pain et d terminera le temps de dorage.é
Ce grille-pain est capable d adapter’
progressivement le degr de dorage au goé ût
de chacun. Si le pain n est pas assez grill’ é,
positionner le r gulateur au degr sup rieuré é é
pour que le pain grille l rement plus,é èg
mais la diff rence des autres grille-pain,à é
celui-ci ne recommencera pas un cycle
complet de grillage.
■ Placer le ré é égulateur sur la position d sir e
et mettre le pain dans la fente.
Important:
- Il est important que la tranche de pain
soit positionn e en face du symbole é
pour permettre au d tecteur deé
reconna tre le type de pain î(14).
- Pour griller de la baguette, des bagels
ou tout type de pain avec cro te, placerû
le c mie face au symbole ô ét.
Si la tranche de pain n est pas bien plac e en’ é
face du d tecteur, l op ration de dorage neé ’ é
s’effectuera pas de façon normale (le temps
de dorage sera plus court). Cela proviendra
du fait que le d tecteur n aura pas uneé ’
surface de pain suffisamment grande pour
effectuer correctement son r glage.é
■ Abaisser complètement le levier jusqu’à
ce qu il s enclenche correctement. ’ ’
A la fin de l’opération de dorage, le pain
remontera automatiquement et l appareil’
s’éteindra tout seul.
Important:
Un fonctionnement anormal du grille-pain,
m eême si la tranche de pain est placé
correctement, peut tre provoqu par desê é
miettes coll es sur le tecteur intelligenté “ éd“.
Retourner le grille-pain et le secouer
doucement pour faire tomber les miettes.
