späteren Gebrauch aufbewahren.
Um alle Vorzüge des Fieberthermometers
optimal nutzen zu können, sollten Sie die Ge-
brauchsanweisung vor Inbetriebnahme sorg-
fältig durchlesen, für die weitere Benutzung
aufbewahren und auch anderen Benutzern
zugänglich machen.
•
Das Thermometer ist ausschließlich zur
Messung der menschlichen Körpertempera-
tur bestimmt.
•
Das Medel Express-Thermometer ist nur
für den in der Gebrauchsanweisung ange-
gebenen Messort am menschlichen Körper
konzipiert.
•
Kindern darf das Gerät nicht unbeaufsichtigt
überlassen werden.
•
Kontrollieren Sie das Thermometer vor jeder
erneuten Benutzung auf Anzeichen von Be-
schädigung oder Abnutzung. Beschädigte
oder abgenutzte Thermometer dürfen nicht
mehr verwendet werden.
•
Die Mindestmessdauer bis zum Signalton ist
ausnahmslos einzuhalten. Besprechen Sie
die ermittelten Werte mit Ihrem Hausarzt.
•
Das Thermometer beinhaltet empfindliche
elektronische Bauteile. Schützen Sie es
deshalb vor Stößen, Biegungen, hohen Tem-
peraturen oder direkter Sonnenbestrahlung.
•
Dieses Thermometer ist mit einer flexiblen
Mess-Spitze ausgestattet und bringt da-
durch mehr Komfort und Sicherheit bei der
Messung, insbesondere bei Kleinkindern,
Schlafenden oder bewußtseinseinge-
schränkten Personen. Die Spitze darf nicht
weiter als 90° abgebogen werden!
•
Der Betrieb im Bereich starker elektro-
magnetischer Felder, wie z.B. neben einem
Mobiltelefon, kann zu Fehlfunktionen führen.
•
Das Thermometer führt beim Einschalten
einen Selbsttest durch. Eine Überprüfung
der Messgenauigkeit ist nicht erforderlich.
•
Bei auälligen Temperaturergebnissen
wenden Sie sich bitte unverzüglich an Ihren
Hausarzt.
•
Das Gerät entspricht der EU-Richtlinie für
Medizinprodukte 93/42/EEC, dem Medizin-
produktegesetz, der europäischen Norm EN
12470-3: Medizinische Thermometer – Teil 3:
Elektrische (extrapolierende und nicht extra-
polierende) Komptaktthermometer mit Ma-
ximumvorrichtung sowie der europäischen
Norm EN60601-1-2 (Übereinstimmung mit
CISPR11, IEC61000-4-2, IEC61000-4-3,
IEC61000-4-8) und unterliegt besonderen
Vorsichtsmaßnahmen hinsichtlich der
elektromagnetischen Verträglichkeit. Bitte
beachten Sie dabei, dass tragbare und
mobile HF-Kommunikationseinrichtungen
dieses Gerät beeinflussen können.
Hinweise zu Elektromagneti-
scher Verträglichkeit
•
Das Gerät ist für den Betrieb in allen Umge-
bungen geeignet, die in dieser Gebrauchs-
anweisung aufgeführt sind, einschließlich
der häuslichen Umgebung.
•
Das Gerät kann in der Gegenwart von
elektromagnetischen Störgrößen unter
Umständen nur in eingeschränktem Maße
nutzbar sein. Infolgedessen können z.B.
Fehlermeldungen oder ein Ausfall des
Displays/Gerätes auftreten.
•
Die Verwendung dieses Gerätes unmittelbar
neben anderen Geräten oder mit anderen
Geräten in gestapelter Form sollte ver-
mieden werden, da dies eine fehlerhafte Be-
triebsweise zur Folge haben könnte. Wenn
eine Verwendung in der vorgeschriebenen
Art dennoch notwendig ist, sollten dieses
Gerät und die anderen Geräte beobachtet
werden, um sich davon zu überzeugen, dass
sie ordnungsgemäß arbeiten.
•
Die Verwendung von anderem Zubehör,
als jenem, welches der Hersteller dieses
Gerätes festgelegt oder bereitgestellt hat,
kann erhöhte elektromagnetische Störaus-
sendungen oder eine geminderte elektro-
magnetische Störfestigkeit des Gerätes
zur Folge haben und zu einer fehlerhaften
Betriebsweise führen.
•
Eine Nichtbeachtung kann zu einer Minde-
rung der Leistungsmerkmale des Gerätes
führen.
Messmethoden:
Temperaturmessung im After
(rektal)
Diese Messmethode ist am zuverlässigsten
und am genauesten. Führen Sie hierzu die
Thermometerspitze vorsichtig 2–3 cm in den
After ein. Die Messzeit beträgt bei diesem
Thermometer an diesem Messort nur ca.
10 Sekunden. Das Messzeitende wird mit
einem Signalton angezeigt.
Temperaturmessung in der Mund-
höhle (oral)
Führen Sie hierzu die Thermometerspitze
in eine der beiden Wärmetaschen unter der
Zunge oder neben der Zungenwurzel ein.
Temperaturmessung in der Ach-
selhöhle (axillar)
Diese Messmethode ist relativ ungenau und
kann deshalb aus medizinischer Sicht nicht
empfohlen werden.

Benutzung
Zum Einschalten drücken Sie
kurz die EIN/AUS-Taste. Ein
kurzer Signalton bestätigt das
Einschalten. Zunächst führt das Thermometer
für ca. 2 Sek. einen Selbsttest durch. Hierbei
sind alle Segmente der Anzeige sichtbar**.
Dann erscheint kurz „Lo °C (Lo °F)“ bzw. der
Wert der letzten Messung im Display. Danach
erscheint der Referenzwert von 37 °C (98,6 °F).
Danach blinkt das Mess-Symbol „°C“ („F“)
und im Display wird „Lo °C (Lo °F)“ angezeigt.
Das Thermometer ist messbereit. Während
der Messung wird die aktuelle Temperatur
laufend angezeigt und das „°C“ („°F“)-Zeichen
blinkt. Die Messung wird beendet, wenn eine
Temperaturstabilität erreicht ist. Ein akusti-
sches Signal ertönt (10 lange Pieptöne), das
„°C“ („°F“)-Zeichen blinkt nicht mehr und der
gemessene Temperaturwert wird angezeigt.
Solange die gemessene Temperatur niedriger
als 32 °C (89,6 °F) ist, blinkt das Mess-Symbol
„°C“ („°F“) und im Display wird „Lo °C (Lo °F)“
angezeigt. Höhere Werte werden direkt
angezeigt, z.B. 32,1 °C (89,8 °F). Werden
Temperaturen über 37,8 °C (100 °F) gemessen,
ertönt ein Fieberalarm (30 kurze Pieptöne in 10
Sekunden) Werden Temperaturen über 43,0 °C
(109,4 °F) gemessen, so erscheint das Symbol
für „Hi °C (Hi °F)“. Die Messzeit ist verglichen
mit herkömmlichen Thermometern stark
verkürzt und beträgt bei der rektalen Messung
nur ca. 10 Sekunden. Durch Verlängerung der
Messdauer über den Signalton hinaus, können
genauere Messergebnisse erzielt werden.
Bei Messungen in der Achselhöhle sollte
die empfohlene Messdauer trotz Signalton
eingehalten werden. Zur Verlängerung der
Batterielebensdauer schalten Sie bitte nach
der Messung das Thermometer durch kurzes
Drücken der EIN/AUS-Taste aus. Ansonsten
schaltet sich das Thermometer nach ca. 10
Min. automatisch ab.
Speicher
Der letzte Messwert wird automatisch gespei-
chert. Dieser Wert wird beim Drücken der EIN/
AUS-Taste angezeigt. Neben dem Messwert
erscheint das Speicher-Symbol, z.B. 37,5 °CM
(99,5 °FM).
Messeinheit ändern
Sie können sich die Temperatur in Grad
Celsius (°C) und Grad Fahrenheit (°F) anzeigen
lassen. Zum Einstellen halten Sie die EIN/AUS-
Taste beim Einschalten länger als 2 Sekunden
gedrückt bis sich die Messeinheit ändert. Der
gespeicherte Wert wird in der neuen Messein-
heit angezeigt.
Batterienwechsel
Das Fieberthermometer enthält eine Langzeit
Alkali-Mangan-Batterie (LR 41,
1,5 V
), für ca. 2
Jahre. Die Batterie muss gewechselt werden,
wenn „T“ am rechten, unteren Rand erscheint.
Drücken Sie den Batteriefachdeckel am Ende
des Gerätes mit den Fingern zusammen
und ziehen Sie ihn kräftig nach hinten weg.
Entnehmen Sie die alte Batterie und ersetzen
Sie diese durch eine Batterie gleichen Typs.
Das + Zeichen auf der Batterie muss nach
oben zeigen. Stecken Sie anschließend den
Batteriefachdeckel auf das Gehäuse auf.
Die verbrauchten, vollkommen entladenen
Batterien müssen Sie über speziell gekenn-
zeichnete Sammelbehälter, Sondermüllannah-
mestellen oder über den Elektrohändleentsor-
gen. Sie sind gesetzlich dazu verpflichtet, die
Batterien zu entsorgen.
Diese Zeichen finden Sie auf schadstohalti-
gen Batterien:
Pb = Batterie enthält Blei,
Cd = Batterie enthält Cadmium,
Hg = Batterie enthält Queck-
silber.
Hinweise zum Umgang mit
Batterien
•
Wenn Flüssigkeit aus einer Batteriezelle mit
Haut oder Augen in Kontakt kommt, die be-
troene Stelle mit Wasser auswaschen und
ärztliche Hilfe aufsuchen.
•
Verschluckungsgefahr! Kleinkinder
könnten Batterien verschlucken und daran
ersticken. Daher Batterien für Kleinkinder
unerreichbar aufbewahren!
•
Auf Polaritätskennzeichen Plus (+) und
Minus (-) ach ten.
•
Wenn eine Batterie ausgelaufen ist, Schutz-
handschuhe anziehen und das Batteriefach
mit einem trockenen Tuch reinigen.
•
Schützen Sie Batterien vor übermäßiger
Wärme.
•
Keine Batterien ins Explosionsgefahr!
Feuer werfen.
•
Batterien dürfen nicht geladen oder kurz-
geschlossen werden.
•
Bei längerer Nichtbenutzung des Geräts die
Batterien aus dem Batteriefach nehmen.
•
Verwenden Sie nur denselben oder einen
gleichwertigen Batterietyp.
•
Immer alle Batterien gleichzeitig auswech-
seln.
•
Keine Akkus verwenden!
•
Keine Batterien zerlegen, önen oder zer-
kleinern.
Reinigung/Desinfektion
Vor und nach jeder Benutzung muss das
Gerät gereinigt bzw. desinfiziert werden. Das
Thermometer ist 100% wasserdicht und kann
zur Reinigung bzw. Desinfektion problemlos in
Wasser oder Desinfektionslösung eingetaucht
werden.
Das Thermometer darf keinesfalls ausgekocht
werden! Verwenden Sie eines der nachfolgen-
den aufgeführten Desinfektionsmittel nach
Herstellerangaben. Andere Reinigungsmittel
oder Methoden können zu Funktionsstörun-
gen oder Beschädigung des Geräts führen.
Name des Mittels: Isopropylalkohol 70%,
Gigasept FF, Lysoformin, Aseptisol.
Aufbewahrung/Entsorgung
Wenn Sie das Thermometer nicht benützen,
bewahren Sie es bitte in der originalen
Schutzhülle auf.
Die Genauigkeit dieses Thermometers wurde
sorgfältig geprüft und wurde im Hinblick auf
eine lange nutzbare Lebensdauer entwickelt.
Bei Verwendung des Gerätes in der Heilkunde
sind Messtechnische Kontrollen mit geeigne-
ten Mitteln durchzuführen. Genaue Angaben
zur Überprüfung der Genauigkeit können unter
der Service-Adresse angefragt werden.
Im Interesse des Umweltschutzes darf das
Gerät am Ende seiner Lebensdauer nicht mit
dem Hausmüll entsorgt werden. Die
Entsorgung kann über entsprechende
Sammelstellen in Ihrem Land erfolgen.
Entsorgen Sie das Gerät gemäß der
Elektro- und Elektronik Altgeräte
EG-Richtlinie – WEEE (Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
Bei Rückfragen wenden Sie sich an
die für die Entsorgung zuständige kommunale

Voraussetzungen und in dem nachfolgend
beschriebenen Umfang eine Garantie für
dieses Produkt.
Die nachstehenden Garantiebedingungen
lassen die gesetzlichen Gewährleistungs -
verpflichtungen des Verkäufers aus dem
Kaufvertrag mit dem Käufer unberührt.
Die Garantie gilt außerdem unbeschadet
zwingender gesetzlicher Haftungsvor-
schriften.
Medel garantiert die mangelfreie Funktions-
tüchtigkeit und die Vollständigkeit dieses
Produktes.
Die weltweite Garantiezeit beträgt 5 Jahre ab
Beginn des Kaufes des neuen, ungebrauchten
Produktes durch den Käufer.
Diese Garantie gilt nur für Produkte, die der
Käufer als Verbraucher erworben hat und aus-
schließlich zu persönlichen Zwecken im Rah-
men des häuslichen Gebrauchs verwendet.
Es gilt deutsches Recht.
Falls sich dieses Produkt während der
Garantiezeit als unvollständig oder in der
Funktionstüchtigkeit als mangelhaft gemäß
der nachfolgenden Bestimmungen erweist,
wird Medel gemäß diesen Garantiebedin-
gungen eine kostenfreie Ersatzlieferung oder
Reparatur durchführen.

sierten Servicecenter geönet, repariert oder
umgebaut wurden;
- Schäden, die auf dem Transportweg
zwischen Hersteller und Kunde bzw. zwischen
Servicecenter und Kunde entstehen
- Produkte, die als 2.Wahl-Artikel oder als
gebrauchte Artikel gekauft wurden;
- Folgeschäden, welche auf einem Mangel
dieses Produktes beruhen (es können für die-
sen Fall jedoch Ansprüche aus Produkthaftung
oder aus anderen zwingenden gesetzlichen
Haftungsbestimmungen bestehen).
Reparaturen oder ein Komplettaustausch ver-
längern in keinem Fall die Garantiezeit.

Importanti avvertenze di sicurezza
– conservare per uso futuro.
Per potere utilizzare in modo ottimale tutti
i vantaggi del termometro, si raccomanda
di leggere attentamente le istruzioni per
l’uso prima di utilizzare lo strumento, di
conservarle per impiego futuro e renderle
accessibili anche a chiunque intenda servirsi
del termometro.

Il termometro è destinato esclusivamente a
misurare la temperatura corporea umana.
•
Il termometro Medel Express è stato
concepito solo per la zona di misurazione
del corpo umano indicata nelle istruzioni per
l’uso.
•
I bambini non possono utilizzare lo strumen-
to senza il controllo di un adulto.
•
Prima di ogni nuovo impiego, controllare che
il termometro non presenti segni di danni o
usura. Non utilizzare termometri danneggiati
o usurati.
•
Rispettare senza eccezioni la durata minima
di misurazione fino alla comparsa del segna-
le acustico. Comunicare i risultati al medico
curante.
•
Il termometro contiene componenti elettro-
niche sensibili. Si raccomanda pertanto di
proteggerlo da urti, piegature, temperature
elevate o raggi solari diretti.
•
Questo termometro è dotato di un punta
flessibile che garantisce un maggiore
comfort e più sicurezza durante la misu-
razione, in particolare in bambini piccoli,
pazienti addormentati o semi-coscienti. Non
piegare la punta oltre 90°!
•
Il funzionamento in prossimità di forti campi
elettromagnetici, come ad esempio un
telefono cellulare, può causare anomalie di
funzionamento.
•
All’accensione, il termometro esegue un
auto-test. Non è necessario controllare la
precisione della misurazione.
•
In caso di temperature anomale, rivolgersi
immediatamente al proprio medico curante.
•
L‘apparecchio è conforme ai requisiti della
direttiva europea per i dispositivi medici
93/42/EEC, alla legge sui dispositivi medici,
alla norma europea EN 12470-3: Termometri
clinici - Parte 3: termometri elettrici compatti
(a comparazione ed estrapolazione) aventi
un dispositivo di massimo e alla norma
europea EN60601-1-2 (conformità con
CISPR11, IEC61000-4-2, IEC61000-4-3,
IEC61000-4-8) e necessita di precauzioni
d‘impiego particolari per quanto riguarda
la compatibilità elettromagnetica. Appa-
recchiature di comunicazione HF mobili e
portatili possono influire sul funzionamento
di questo apparecchio.
Avvertenze sulla compatibilità
elettromagnetica
•
L’apparecchio è idoneo per l’utilizzo in
qualsiasi ambiente riportato nelle presenti
istruzioni per l’uso, incluso l’ambiente
domestico.
•
In determinate circostanze, in presenza di
disturbi elettromagnetici l’apparecchio può
essere utilizzato solo limitatamente. Ne pos-
sono conseguire ad es. messaggi di errore o
un guasto del display/apparecchio.
•
Evitare di utilizzare il presente apparecchio
nelle immediate vicinanze di altri apparecchi
o con apparecchi in posizione impilata,
poiché ciò potrebbe determinare un
funzionamento non corretto. Qualora fosse
comunque necessario un utilizzo nel modo
prescritto, è opportuno tenere sotto control-
lo questo apparecchio e gli altri apparecchi
in modo da assicurarsi che funzionino
correttamente.
•
L’utilizzo di altri accessori diversi da quelli
stabiliti dal produttore dell’apparecchio o in
dotazione con l’apparecchio può compor-
tare la comparsa di significative emissioni
elettromagnetiche di disturbo o ridurre la
resistenza dell’apparecchio alle interferenze
elettromagnetiche e a un funzionamento non
corretto dello stesso.
•
La mancata osservanza può ridurre le
prestazioni dell’apparecchio.
Metodi di misura:
Misurazione della temperatura
nell’ano (rettale)
Questo metodo di misura è il più adabile
e preciso. Introdurre con precauzione la
punta del termometro nell’anno di 2 – 3 cm.
La misurazione in questo sito con il presente
termometro richiede solo 10 secondi circa. La
fine della misurazione viene indicata con un
segnale sonoro.
Misurazione della temperatura in
bocca (orale)
Introdurre la punta del termometro in una
delle due cavità sotto la lingua o accanto alla
radice linguale.
Misurazione della temperatura
sotto l’ascella (ascellare)
Questo metodo di misura è relativamente
impreciso e non può pertanto essere racco-
mandato dal punto di vista medico

Per accendere premere
brevemente il tasto ON/OFF.
L’accensione è confermata
da un breve segnale acustico. In primo luogo,
il termometro esegue un autotest per circa
2 secondi. In questa fase sono visibili tutti i
segmenti dell’indicazione**.
Sul display compare quindi brevemente “Lo °C
(Lo °F)” o il valore dell’ultima misurazione
eettuata.
Successivamente, appare il valore di riferi-
mento di 37 °C (98,6 °F). Successivamente
lampeggia il simbolo di misurazione “°C” (“°F”)
ed il display visualizza “Lo °C (Lo °F)”.
Il termometro è pronto a misurare.
Durante la misurazione, viene visualizzata con-
tinuamente la temperatura attuale e il simbolo
“°C” (“°F”) lampeggia.
La misurazione si conclude quando è stata
raggiunta una temperatura stabile. Risuona
un segnale acustico (10 bip lunghi), il simbolo
“°C” (“°F”) smette di lampeggiare e il display
visualizza il valore misurato della temperatura.
Finché la temperatura misurata è inferiore a
32 °C (89,6 °F), lampeggia il simbolo di misura-
zione “°C” (“°F”) ed il display visualizza “Lo °C
(Lo °F)”. Valori superiori vengono indicati
direttamente, ad es. 32,1 °C (89,8 °F). In caso
di temperature superiori a 37,5 °C (100 °F),
risuona un segnale di allarme (30 brevi bip in
10 secondi).
Se vengono misurate temperature superiori a
43,0 °C (109,4 °F), compare il simbolo “Hi °C
(Hi °F)”.
Il tempo di misurazione è enormemente ridotto
rispetto ai termometri convenzionali, e nella
misurazione rettale dura circa solo 10 secondi.
Prolungando la durata di misurazione oltre
al segnale acustico, si ottengono risultati
più precisi.
Quando si eseguono misurazioni nell’ascella,
rispettare la durata di misurazione malgrado il
segnale acustico.
Per prolungare la durata in servizio delle bat-
terie, spegnere il termometro dopo la misura-
zione premendo brevemente il tasto ON/OFF.
In caso contrario, il termometro si spegne
automaticamente dopo circa 10 minuti.
Memoria
L’ultimo valore misurato viene memorizzato
automaticamente. Tale valore viene visualiz-
zato premendo il pulsante ON/OFF. Oltre al
valore misurato, compare anche il simbolo
della memoria, ad es. 37,5 °CM (99,5 °FM).
Cambio dell’unità di misura
La temperatura può essere indicata in gradi
centigradi (°C) e in gradi Fahrenheit (°F). Per
l’impostazione, tener premuto il pulsante
durante l’accensione più a lungo di 2 secondi
finché l’unità di misura non cambia.
Il valore memorizzato viene indicato nella
nuova unità di misura.
Sostituzione delle batterie
Il termometro clinico contiene una batteria
alcalina al manganese di lunga durata (LR41,
1,5 V), con un’autonomia di circa 2 anni. La
batteria deve essere sostituita quando appare
la lettera “T” nel margine inferiore destro.
Comprimere con le dita il coperchio del vano
batteria all’estremità dell’apparecchio e tirarlo
con forza all’indietro. Estrarre la batteria esau-
sta e sostituirla con una batteria dello stesso
tipo. Il segno + sulla batteria deve essere rivolto
verso l’alto. Riapplicare quindi il coperchio sul
vano batteria.
Smaltire le batterie esauste e completamente
scariche negli appositi punti di raccolta, nei
punti di raccolta per rifiuti tossici o presso i
negozi di elettronica. Lo smaltimento delle
batterie è un obbligo di legge.

Avvertenze sull’uso delle
batterie
•
Se il liquido della batteria viene a contatto
con la pelle e con gli occhi, sciacquare le
parti interessate con acqua e consultare il
medico.

Pericolo d’ingestione! I bambini pos-
sono ingerire le batterie e soocare. Tenere
quindi le batterie lontano dalla portata dei
bambini!
•
Prestare attenzione alla polarità positiva (+)
e negativa (-).
•
In caso di fuoriuscita di liquido dalla
batteria, indossare guanti protettivi e pulire
il vano batterie con un panno asciutto.
•
Proteggere le batterie dal caldo eccessivo.
•
Rischio di esplosione! Non gettare le
batterie nel fuoco.
•
Le batterie non devono essere ricaricate o
mandate in cortocircuito.
•
Qualora l’apparecchio non dovesse essere
utilizzato per un periodo prolungato, rimuo-
vere le batteria dal vano batterie.
•
Utilizzare solo tipologie di batterie uguali o
equivalenti.
•
Sostituire sempre tutte le batterie contem-
poraneamente.

Non utilizzare batterie ricaricabili!
•
Non smontare, aprire o frantumare le batte-
rie.
Pulizia/Disinfezione
Il termometro è completamente impermeabile
e può essere immerso senza problemi nell’ac-
qua o in soluzioni disinfettante. Non bollire
il termometro in nessun caso! Utilizzare uno
dei disinfettanti elencati di seguito, seguendo
le istruzioni del produttore. Altri detergenti o
metodi possono causare anomalie di funzio-
namento o danni allo strumento.

Gigasept FF, Lysoformin, Aseptisol.
Conservazione/Smaltimento
In caso di non utilizzo, conservare il termome-
tro nell’astuccio originale.
La precisione di questo termometro è stata
accuratamente testata ed è stata sviluppata
per una lunga durata di vita utile.
Se l’apparecchio viene utilizzato a scopo
professionale, è necessario eettuare controlli
tecnici con gli strumenti adeguati. Richiedere
informazioni dettagliate sulla verifica della
precisione all’indirizzo indicato del servizio
assistenza.
Per motivi ecologici, l’apparecchio non deve
essere smaltito tra i normali rifiuti quando
viene buttato via.
Lo smaltimento deve essere eettuato negli
appositi centri di raccolta. Smaltire

In order to make optimum use of all the merits
of the clinical thermometer, you should care-
fully read the operating instructions before us-
ing it, retain the instructions for later use and
also keep them accessible for other users.
•
The thermometer is intended to measure the
temperature of the human body.
•
The Medel Express thermometer is only de-
signed for the measuring area on the human
body stated in the instructions for use.
•
Children should not use the thermometer
without supervision.
•
Before each use, check the thermometer for
signs of damage or wear.
Damaged or worn thermometers should not
be used.
•
Always wait for the acoustic signal which
indicates the minimum time required for
measurement. Discuss the temperature with
your family physician.
•
The thermometer contains sensitive
electronic parts. Therefore, protect it from
blows, bending, high temperature or direct
exposure to sunlight.
•
This thermometer has a flexible measuring
tip to provide greater comfort and safety
during measurement, particularly in infants
and persons who are asleep or have a re-
duced level of consciousness. The tip must
not be bent more than 90°!
•
Using the thermometer in strong electro-
magnetic fields such as next to a mobile
phone, can cause a malfunction.
•
When the thermometer is switched on, it
carries out a self-test. Therefore the accu-
racy of measurement need not be tested at
regular intervals.
•
If the temperature is very abnormal, please
contact your family doctor promptly.
•
This device meets the requirements of the
EU Directive 93/42/EEC concerning medical
devices, as well as those of the Medizinpro-
duktegesetz (German Medical Devices Act),
the European Standard EN 12470-3: Clinical
thermometers – part 3: Performance of com-
pact electrical thermometers (non-predictive
and predictive) with maximum device and
the European Standard EN60601-1-2 (in
accordance with CISPR11, IEC61000-4-2,
IEC61000-4-3, IEC61000-4-8), and is
subject to particular precautions with regard
to electromagnetic compatibility.

with this unit.
Notes on electromagnetic
compatibility

The device is suitable for use in all environ-
ments listed in these instructions for use,
including domestic environments.

The use of the device may be limited in the
presence of electromagnetic disturbances.
This could result in issues such as error
messages or the failure of the display/
device.
•
Avoid using this device directly next to other
devices or stacked on top of other devices,
as this could lead to faulty operation. If,
however, it is necessary to use the device in
the manner stated, this device as well as the
other devices must be monitored to ensure
they are working properly.
•
The use of accessories other than those
specified or provided by the manufacturer
of this device can lead to an increase in
electromagnetic emissions or a decrease in
the device’s electromagnetic immunity; this
can result in faulty operation.

Failure to comply with the above can impair
the performance of the device.
Measuring methods:
Temperature measurement in the
anus (rectal)
This method of measurement is most reliable
and most accurate. Guide the tip of the
thermometer carefully 2 to 3 cm into the anus.
The measurement time with this thermometer
at this site is only about 10 seconds. The
end of the measuring time is indicated by an
signal tone.
Measurement in the mouth cavity
(oral)
For this purpose, guide the tip of the
thermometer carefully into one of the heat
pouches beneath the tongue, to the left or the
right of the root of the tongue.
Measurement of temperature in
the armpit (axillary)
This method of measurement is relatively inac-
curate. Therefore, it cannot be recommended
from a medical point of view.

Use
Press the On/O switch
to turn the unit on. A short
acoustic signal will announce
that it is switched on. The thermometer will
carry out a self-test for about 2 seconds.
During the self-test all segments of the display
will be visible**. Then “Lo °C (Lo °F)” or the
value of the last measurement will appear in
the display. Then the reference value of 37 °C
(98.6 °F) will appear. Then the flashing symbol
“°C” appears and the symbol “Lo” is shown in
the display screen.
The thermometer is now ready for use.
During the measurement, the current temper-
ature is displayed continuously, and the “°C”
(“°F”) symbol flashes on and o.
The measurement is completed when a
stable temperature has been reached.
An acoustic signal (10 long beeps) sounds,
the “°C” (“°F”) symbol stops flashing and the
measured temperature is displayed.
So long as the temperature is less than 32 °C
(89.6 °F), the “°C” (“°F”) symbol continues
to flash and “Lo °C (Lo °F)” is shown on the
display.
Higher values are displayed directly, e.g.
32.1 °C (89.9 °F). If temperatures over 37.8 °C
(100 °F) are measured, a fever alarm (30 short
beeps in 10 seconds) sounds. If temperatures
over 43.0 °C (109.4 °F) are measured, the
symbol for “Hi °C (Hi °F)” appears.
The measurement time is very quick com-
pared to conventional thermometers and is
only 10 seconds for the rectal measurement.
More accurate measurements are possible by
extending the measurement time beyond the
acoustic signal.
For measurements in the armpits the
recommended measurement time should be
maintained in spite of the acoustic signal.
To prolong the life of the battery, please
switch o the thermometer by briefly pressing
the On/O key after the measurement.
Otherwise the thermometer will automatically
switch o after 10 minutes.
Memory
The last measured value will be stored auto-
matically. This value is displayed when the
On/O button is pressed. The memory symbol
is also shown beside the measured value, e.g.
37.5 °CM (99.5 °FM).
Changing the measuring unit
The temperature can be displayed in degrees
Celsius (°C) and degrees Fahrenheit (°F). To
set the measuring unit press and hold the On/
O button for longer than 2 seconds when
switching on until the measuring unit changes.
The saved value is displayed in the new
measuring unit.
Changing the battery
The clinical thermometer contains a long-life
alkali-manganese battery (LR 41,
1.5 V
), which
will last for approx. 2 years. The battery has to
be replaced when “T” appears in the bottom
right corner of the display. Press down the
battery cover at the end of the device with
your fingers and then pull it firmly back.
Remove the old battery and replace it with a
battery of the same type. The + sign on the
battery must point upwards.
Then put the battery cover back onto the
case.
The empty, completely flat batteries must
be disposed of through specially designated
collection boxes, recycling points or electron-
ics retailers.
You are legally required to dispose of the
batteries.
The codes below are printed on
batteries containing harmful
substances:
Pb = Battery contains lead,
Cd = Battery contains cadmium,
Hg = Battery contains mercury.
Notes on handling batteries
•
If your skin or eyes come into contact with
battery fluid, flush out the aected areas
with water and seek medical assistance.
•
Choking hazard! Small children may
swallow and choke on batteries. Store the
batteries out of the reach of small children.
•
Observe the plus (+) and minus (-) polarity
signs.
•
If a battery has leaked, put on protective
gloves and clean the battery compartment
with a dry cloth.
•
Protect the batteries from excessive heat.
•
Risk of explosion! Never throw batte-
ries into a fire.
•
Do not charge or short-circuit batteries.
•
If the device is not to be used for a long
period, take the batteries out of the battery
compartment.
•
Use identical or equivalent battery types
only.
•
Always replace all batteries at the same
time.
•
Do not use rechargeable batteries.
•
Do not disassemble, split or crush the
batteries.
Cleaning/Disinfection
The device must be cleaned and disinfected
before and after each use.
The thermometer is 100% water-proof.
For the purpose of cleaning or disinfection,
it can be dipped into water or disinfectant
without any diculties.
Under no circumstances should the thermom-
eter be boiled!
Use one of the following disinfectants in ac-
cordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Other cleaning agents or methods could
impair the function of the thermometer or
damage it.

Storage/Disposal
When you are not using the thermometer,
please retain it in the original protective cover.
The accuracy of this thermometer has been
carefully checked and developed with regard
to a long useful life.
If using the device for commercial medical
purposes, it must be regularly tested for
accuracy by appropriate means. Precise
instructions for checking accuracy may be
requested from the service address.
For environmental reasons, do not dispose of
the device in the household waste at
the end of its useful life. Dispose of
the unit at a suitable local collection
or recycling point. Dispose of the
device in accordance with EC Directive –
WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment). If you have any questions, please
contact the local authorities responsible for
waste disposal.

subject to the requirements below and to the
extent described as follows.
The warranty conditions below shall not
aect the seller’s statutory warranty
obligations which ensue from the sales
agreement with the buyer.
The warranty shall apply without prejudice
to any mandatory statutory provisions on
liability.
Medel guarantees the perfect functionality and
completeness of this product.
The worldwide warranty period is 5 years,
commencing from the purchase of the new,
unused product from the seller.
The warranty only applies to products
purchased by the buyer as a consumer and
used exclusively for personal purposes in the
context of domestic use.
German law shall apply.
During the warranty period, should this
product prove to be incomplete or defective in
functionality in accordance with the following
provisions, Medel shall carry out a repair or a
replacement delivery free of charge, in accord-
ance with these warranty conditions.
If the buyer wishes to make a warranty
claim, they should approach their local re-
tailer in the first instance: see the attached
“International Service” list of service
addresses.
The buyer will then receive further information
about the processing of the warranty claim,
e.g. where they can send the product and
what documentation is required.
A warranty claim shall only be considered if
the buyer can provide Medel, or an authorised
Medel partner, with
- a copy of the invoice/purchase receipt, and
- the original product.
The following are explicitly excluded from this
warranty:
- deterioration due to normal use or consump-
tion of the product;
- accessories supplied with this product which
are worn out or used up through proper use
(e.g. batteries, rechargeable batteries, cus,
seals, electrodes, light sources, attachments
and nebuliser accessories);
- products that are used, cleaned, stored or
maintained improperly and/or contrary to the
provisions of the instructions for use, as well
as products that have been opened, repaired
or modified by the buyer or by a service
centre not authorised by Medel;
- damage that arises during transport between
manufacturer and customer, or between
service centre and customer;
- products purchased as seconds or as used
goods;
- consequential damage arising from a fault
in this product (however, in this case, claims
may exist arising from product liability or other
compulsory statutory liability provisions).
Repairs or an exchange in full do not extend
the warranty period under any circumstances.
