damage and personal injuries.
18. -If your equipment is no longer functioning properly, if fluids or objects have gotten inside the equip
ment or if it has been damaged in another way, switch it off immediately and unplug it from the
mains outlet (if it is a powered device). This equipment may only be repaired by authorized, qualified
personnel.

20. Comply with all applicable disposal laws in your country. During disposal of packaging, please
separate plastic and paper/cardboard.
21. Plastic bags must be kept out of reach of children.
22. If the equipment has been exposed to strong fluctuations in temperature (for example, after trans-
port), do not switch it on immediately. Moisture and condensation could damage the equipment. Do
not switch on the equipment until it has reached room temperature.
23. Do not step on the power cord. Make certain that the power cable does not become kinked, espe-
cially at the mains outlet and/or power adapter and the equipment connector.
24. When connecting the equipment, make certain that the power cord or power adapter is always
freely accessible. Always disconnect the equipment from the power supply if the equipment is not
in use or if you want to clean the equipment. Always unplug the power cord and power adapter from
the power outlet at the plug or adapter and not by pulling on the cord. Never touch the power cord
and power adapter with wet hands.
25. To disconnect the equipment from the power mains completely, unplug the power cord or power
adapter from the power outlet.
26. Unplug the power cord and power adapter from the power outlet if there is a risk of a lightning strike
or before extended periods of disuse.

THE BACKGROUND
The Palmer Y-BOX basically has the same function as a Y-cable to split the guitar signal. However, it
avoids the usual hassles like loss of tone or ground loop hum. Moreover, it can be used to perform
functions such as phase reversal or act as a buffer-amp (this will be explained later...). If you want
to direct your guitar signal to two different preamps or amps, or a combination thereof, apart from
the usual loss of signal you will most likely experience a hum caused by grounding of two devices
powered by the same source. The Y-BOX does away with both problems. The input signal “GUITAR”
is routed directly to the output of “AMP1” parallel to that through a low noise, high impedance gain
stage which doesn’t affect the input it is then sent to the output “AMP2” via an isolating transformer.
The active circuitry and the transformer ensure that the inputs to the amplifiers won’t interfere with
each other, thereby eliminating the problems mentioned above. The Y-BOX should preferably be pow-
ered by a 9 V, PP3 battery. The power consumption is only 0.5 mA, so a battery should last several
months. Nevertheless, the input jack should be disconnected when the unit is not in use, to cut off
the Battery from the circuit. Operation with an external 9 V DC supply is also possible, but we only
recommend this option under certain circumstances; firstly the power supply will connect you to the
mains power and ground loop may occur, secondly the rectified voltage has to be extremely smooth
and free of noise, in order to not send more unwanted noise to your amplifier Set up. A battery avoids
all these problems.
SETTING UP
To start, open the battery compartment simply by lifting it slightly and pulling it out. Insert a 9 V PP3
size battery, observing the proper marked poling, and close the compartment. Make sure the battery
polarity is correct!! Your entire set up should be made using high quality, shielded instrument cable
with low capacitance. Only then, will you have a first class uncolored and undistorted sound. So
connect your guitar to the box’s input “GUITAR”. The connection of this jack activates the battery. So
make sure you disconnect it when the session is over! Now hook up the outputs “AMP 1” and “AMP
2” to the desired amplifiers, preamps or effects devices.
ATTENTION!! THE BOX, AND THEREFORE ALSO YOUR GUITAR IS GROUNDED / SHIELDED VIA THE
OUTPUT “AMP 1”, SO THIS OUTPUT SHOULD BE CONNECTED FIRST.
TIPS & TRICKS
It is generally known that amplifiers/preamps may internally reverse the phase of your signal. As
long as only one device is used, this isn’t a problem. However, should a phase-reversing amp be
used in conjunction with a non-phase-reversing amp, signal cancellation will occur, resulting in an
overall quieter signal and a noticeable loss of bass frequencies. Should this be the case with your
setup, you can reverse the phase of the output “AMP 2”. To do this, press the corresponding switch
on the device. As mentioned earlier the output “AMP 2” should normally not be grounded. Thanks to
the implemented electronics however, it has a lower impedance than output “AMP 1”. This makes
the box an excellent line driver/buffer. Using a short cable, hook up guitar and box and connect a 30
feet or longer (depending on your needs) cable to the output “AMP 2” without any loss of high end!!
However, the guitar isn’t grounded in this configuration, resulting in noticeable hum, in this case
press the corresponding ground lift switch.
