○Measurement Category
To ensure safe operation of measuring instruments, IEC 61010
establishes safety standards for various electrical environments,
categorizedasOtoCATIV,andcalledmeasurementcategories.Higher-
numbered categories correspond to electrical environments with greater
momentary energy, so a measuring instrument designed for CAT III
environments can endure greater momentary energy than one designed
forCATII.
O :Circuits which are not directly connected to the mains power
supply.
CATII :Electrical circuits of equipment connected to an AC electrical
outletbyapowercord.
CATIII :Primaryelectricalcircuitsoftheequipmentconnecteddirectlyto
thedistributionpanel,andfeedersfromthedistributionpanelto
outlets.
CATIV :The circuit from the service drop to the service entrance, and
to the power meter and primary over-current protection device
(distributionpanel).

4−2AC Current Measurement
# CAUTION
●
The maximum size conductor to be tested is approx. 24 mm in
diameter. An accurate measurement cannot be made when the
transformer jaws are not fully closed on a conductor larger than
24mm.
●
When measuring a large current, the transformer jaws may buzz.
Thisisnotafaultanddoesnotaffecttheaccuracy.
●
About10minutesaftertheinstrumentisturnedon,theAutoPower
